Avis Smith: Trauma Smart Preschools

Early intervention in the lives of children who have been impacted by chronic traumatic stress can be life-changing. The Trauma Smart program developed at the Crittenton Center in Kansas City is expanding in Missouri and Kansas, training preschool teachers in evidence-based interventions that can address the traumatic impact of violence, abuse and neglect. Avis Smith, Director of Prevention and School-Based Programs at the Crittenton Center in Kansas City, describes the development of this successful, expanding program and the ways the strategies are improving the lives of these young children and their teachers and parents.
