ATN Angel – Lynne Lyon

By:  Julie Beem

In celebration of ATN’s 2016 Angels in Adoption award, we’re profiling ATN members who have helped ATN win the award — and who have themselves been Angels to families and children.

Lynne LyonAn ATN member who was one of my early heroes is Lynne Lyon. Back when I met her, in 1999, she wasn’t Lynne Lyon, LCSW – an attachment therapist in New Jersey – she was Lynne, a trauma mama just like me! She was starting a small listserve called AttachChina (that isn’t small anymore). I think I was the 15th member.  Lynne’s determination to form an online support group, crossing geographic boundaries, and to pour so much energy into sharing what she was learning about attachment & trauma and encouraging others to do the same is the type of generous, compassionate, determined spirit found by so many of the parents and professionals who I’ve had the pleasure to know of the past two decades! Lynne went the extra mile to help her daughter heal, and then went back to school to become a therapist, knowing how few therapists were out there who truly understood. I’ve had the opportunity to meet Lynne in person more than once, which is great! And I’m ever grateful for her early wisdom and friendship when my family’s challenges felt so great – and for how she continues to help families both through AttachChina and through her private practice. Lynne – you are an ATN Angel!
