ATN Angel: Anna Paravano

In celebration of ATN’s 2016 Angels in Adoption award, we’re profiling ATN members who have helped ATN win the award — and who have themselves been Angels to families and children.

Anna ParavanoEven before I met Anna, she had an impact on me. One of my very early experiences with ATN was attending the “Educating Traumatized Children Summit”. This is a series of recorded interviews with experts from all over the country that are using innovative methods in schools and classrooms to help children like mine be successful in school.  Even though I’m not a teacher, I learned so much about the nature of trauma and about ways to help my daughter at home from these wise and caring professionals. I was so inspired that I bought the whole series. Later, I learned that it was Anna who was the driving force behind creating the Summit, as well as other educational materials for parents. She volunteered countless hours towards creating the programs, greatly enhancing ATN’s educational efforts. She did all this while raising her own traumatized son and managing her career.

Later, when I met Anna in person, I learned that not only was she brilliant and creative, she is also warm, loving, empathetic and more than willing to share her own experiences. And, she is funny! We related to each other on many levels and created a firm friendship. I know I can count on her when I need a sympathetic, experienced ear to listen and shoulder to lean on. I am very grateful to have Angel Anna in my life, and, of course for the contributions she has made to ATN!
